Pastor Search

First Baptist Church of La Plata is prayerfully seeking a pastor.  The church was founded in 1840 ---an important part of the La Plata Community for more than 175 years.  It is affiliated with both the Southern and Missouri Baptist Conventions.

This position requires a full-time pastor with a commitment to God and a love for serving the congregation. The pastor shall have charge of the welfare and oversight of the church.  The pastor shall preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, administer the ordinances, teach the Bible, watch over the members, and have charge over the spiritual welfare of the congregation.

The pastor shall possess the Biblical qualifications for a pastor found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9 and be a non-Reformed, mission-minded, licensed and ordained minister.

La Plata's five churches work together to form La Plata Christian Ministries which operates a food pantry and clothing center.  The pastors of the churches are members of the Ministerial Alliance which coordinates several community worship services throughout the year including Thanksgiving, Easter, High School Baccalaureate, and the annual service in the park during the La Plata Soybean Festival over  Labor Day weekend.


About La Plata

La Plata is situated in the northeast part of Missouri in an agricultural setting.  It has a population of about 1400 persons--a small town with a great heart!   La Plata is located about 12 miles south of Kirksville which provides medical, shopping, educational and transportation opportunities; and about 75 miles from Columbia with all of the benefits of a large city.


La Plata R-II Schools provides public education for preschool through twelfth grade.

Nearby Kirksville is the home of several colleges and professional schools.
     Truman State University - 4-year liberal arts college with additional masters programs
     Moberly Area Community College - Associate degrees and vocational programs
     A.T. Still University - A health sciences university including medical and dental schools

Columbia, just 75 miles down the interstate highway, is the home of the University of Missouri and several other colleges including Stephens College and Columbia College.


The Santa Fe Lake offers swmming, fishing, and picnicking.  It is located just outside of town.
Located east on Highway 156 is the City Reservoir which offers fishing and camping.  
You can play golf on an 18-hole course!
The annual Soybean Festival is held every year over the Labor Day weekend.

Thousand Hills State Park, located a few miles west of Kirksville, is a 3,215-acre park with numerous attractions, including a marina, beach, dining lodge, trails, cabins, camping, fishing, and Native American petroglyphs. 

The Kirksville Tourism Office provides information on events and activities in the area.


Kirksville Regional Airport, 6 miles north of La Plata, provides daily flights on Cape Air to St. Louis and back.

La Plata has an Amtrak station.  The Southwest Chief passenger train provides service east to Chicago and west to Los Angeles every day.
